The toolkit, applied here.
Polyamory coaching with me in Portland draws on the tools I introduced in Open Deeply, the EPIC Communication Model, Double Triggers, Embodied Consent, and the broader practitioner toolkit on my Approach page. The work is specific: opening up without imploding the existing relationship; working with metamour dynamics; navigating polycule structure changes; creating conscious, compassionate relationships. Sessions are present- and future-focused. We do not process trauma in a coaching session; if your situation is therapy territory, I will tell you that on the consult call.
A few common reasons people in Portland write to me.
- Couples opening a long-term partnership for the first time
- Polyamorous people navigating triad / polycule structure changes
- Partners working through jealousy, NRE, or activated-at-the-same-time dynamics
- People who have read Open Deeply and want to work with the author directly
- CNM-experienced people seeking a coach who actually knows the territory
A note on the local scene.
Portland has, per capita, arguably the most active polyamorous and kink-affirmative culture in the country. The Sex Positive Portland network, SPEEC, and a long tail of community spaces have made non-monogamy normalized in much of the city's social fabric. The queer/trans community in Portland overlaps deeply with poly community, and there's a strong somatic / contemplative practitioner base, sex-positive Buddhism, Hakomi, body-focused training programs, that influences how people in Portland do relational work.

Coaching is online, so Oregon residents can work with Kate as a coach without a licensure question. For psychotherapy specifically, look for an Oregon-licensed therapist; Kate's therapy practice is California-only.
- FREQUENTLY ASKED
Quick answers.
01Do I need to be physically located somewhere specific to work with you as a coach?
No. Coaching is 100% online. Every session is video or phone. Whether you live in Portland proper, in the surrounding metro area, or anywhere else, we can work together.
Therapy is the one that has location restrictions: Kate is licensed to provide psychotherapy only in California. Coaching has no licensure or geographic constraint.
02What's specific to working on polyamory issues in Portland?
Most of what we work on is the universal stuff: the patterns, the communication, the attachment dynamics, the embodied-consent practice. That doesn't change by metro.
What can be specific to Portland is context: the shape of the local CNM community, what local resources exist when you need them, and what local therapist referral makes sense if it turns out coaching isn't the right fit.
03How do you handle metamour or polycule dynamics in coaching?
I work with individuals, couples, and triads, and I'm open to supporting polycules as well. If we're working with multiple members, we'll collaboratively determine the best format — sometimes one-on-one, sometimes a few of you, and sometimes everyone together. For larger group decisions that affect the whole polycule, we'll gather everyone for a longer session. If it's more about refining communication or boundaries, smaller subsets can focus on those skills. And if there's a metamour conflict requiring deeper mediation, I can help or refer you to a poly-affirmative therapist if needed.
